US-based energy storage technology provider FlexGen has officially announced its entry into the European market – with customer projects already underway in the UK alongside the Nordics, Portugal and Ukraine.

The company says it is building its presence in Europe to increase battery storage capacity on local grids, as well as supporting energy reliability and affordability. FlexGen ‘offers its energy management system, including power plant controls, analytics, and site-level SCADA’, as well as lifecycle services, integration abilities and data centre leadership to the European market.

The European unit is led by Mike Wallace, whose appointment was announced a year ago, with FlexGen promising at the time that he would ‘help unlock the full potential of energy storage.’ “As Europe faces rising energy prices, high curtailment rates, and rising demand from electrification, FlexGen’s advanced software and services will meet local grid challenges and solve for energy independence, reliability, and affordability,” said Wallace.

“Europe represents a significant growth opportunity for FlexGen, and I look forward to building out our team to provide highly available, high-performance battery storage to the market for not only standalone and co-located BESS, but also for data centre applications,” added Wallace.

The jewel in the crown is arguably the HybridOS energy management system software platform, which boasts full configurability across use cases, as well as modularity and scalability for an entire battery energy storage system (BESS) ecosystem.

In recent months, FlexGen announced the acquisition of Clean Energy Services (CES), as well as how the two entities would strengthen end-to-end support for battery storage and hybrid projects. As battery storage projects become more complex, larger, and increasingly critical to grid stability, combining CES’s field services with the HybridOS platform creates faster availability, more reliable operations, and maximised performance over the life of an asset.
