Schneider Electric has officially launched Schneider Boost Pro, its local battery energy storage system (BESS), in the UK, following a wider European launch last October.

The solution is scalable from 200 kWh to 2 MWh – by combining up to 10 units – with other features including certified cybersecurity by design and an option for remote maintenance. One interesting feature is integration with EcoStruxure Microgrid Advisor, Schneider’s cloud-based software which optimises microgrids by connecting to distributed energy resources (DERs) and is able to enable better decision-making through forecasting weather conditions, site production and market conditions.

Key use cases for Schneider Boost Pro include self-consumption optimisation, storing surplus renewable energy to maximise its use and increase energy independence, and tariff management, enabling customers to manage self-consumption and load shifting. The system balances energy usage across different sites, using a pre-charged BESS when required energy demand is higher than energy available.

Ideal environments include depots, to support the charging of heavy-duty vehicles, as well as integration with transit infrastructure where reliable and high-capacity charging solutions are essential.

With renewables now producing 44% of the UK’s electricity, according to the National Energy Systems Operator (NESO), Schneider Electric noted that increasing this figure was ‘challenging’ due to renewables variability and the need for grid modernisation. “Schneider Boost Pro is a solution that supports the energy transition by delivering energy storage capabilities that enhance flexibility, stability, and efficiency in power supply across industrial and commercial buildings,” the company added.
