Electric vehicle charging provider Voltempo has delivered a high-power charging solution for Bartrums Haulage, enabling the company to scale its electric heavy goods vehicle (eHGV) fleet.
The installation includes a Rolec UltraCharge 400 unit, a 400kW charging system with dual CCS2 connectors, charge monitoring, and two dedicated HGV charging bays. The installation is located adjacent to a high-capacity substation installed as part of a 2022 site development, reducing cabling requirements and overall cost.
Bartrums operates almost 200 vehicles across the UK across pallet network distribution, general haulage and bulk transport. The company already operates a Volvo FH Electric for bulk tipping, yet it currently has to be charged at a customer’s premises.
The initiative was supported by funding from the UK government’s Depot Charging Scheme (DCS). Voltempo led the project from initial design to installation and grid connection, as well as ensuring the application for DCS funding was successful.
Tremayne Johnson, director at Bartrums, noted the importance of the government grant enabling this project. “The key challenge has always been charging,” said Johnson. “Without our site charger, there simply is no electrification project.”
From Voltempo’s side, the company noted accessing available funding support can ‘make all the difference’ in accelerating the transition to decarbonised freight transport. “High-power depot charging isn’t just about installing a charger,” Paul Jordan, chief commercial officer at Voltempo wrote. “It’s about grid connection, site design, planning, and making sure all pieces of the puzzle work together.”
This is not the only customer win from Voltempo announced in recent weeks. The company’s partnership with Corpay, enabling a global fleet payment platform, has borne fruit in the form of the first live deployment of Voltempo’s DepotCharge solution with Welch Group. The move enables Openreach to access shared, cost-competitive, and bookable depot charging.
