EV charging network provider Gridserve has delivered its fastest ever first quarter for new charging infrastructure.

The company has opened or expanded 12 Electric Super Hubs across the country during the first three months of 2026, representing a total of 120 new charging bays added to its Electric Highway. These include Moto Kinross and Fort Kinnaird in Scotland, to the Folkestone M20 Services.

In January, Gridserve announced an expansion of its partnership with motorway service station operator Extra, with their first ultra-rapid EV charging station being opened at Beaconsfield Services. The station, with six 50kW-capable charging bays, was added to with a further 12 super-fast bays with 400kW-capable chargers. Beaconsfield was the first of seven new sites opening in 2026, with Baldock, Cambridge and Peterborough also operational.

The same month also saw Gridserve launch the UK’s first dedicated motorway charging hubs for electric HGVs. The Electric Freightway is an emerging network ‘designed to bring the same speed, reliability and convenience’ to electric trucks as the Highway has done for cars and vans. Extra Baldock and Moto Exeter were the first locations announced, with a further nine in the pipeline.

George Lloyd, group head of delivery for Gridserve, said he was ‘incredibly proud’ of the company’s accomplishments to ‘scale a reliable, nationwide charging network for EV drivers across the UK.’ “The pace of delivery we’ve achieved in the first quarter of 2026 is our strongest yet, and it’s a real testament to the dedication and expertise of the team behind our Super Hubs, as well as the long-term relationships we have developed with our partners,” said Lloyd. “From concept through to construction and energisation, this rollout reflects a huge collective effort.”

Among other plans in Q2, a fifth Electric Forecourt, a purpose-built EV charging station, will be launched at Markham Vale in Derbyshire.
